Hey there, I’m AJ. An author of diverse romance.
But what does “diverse romance” mean? You might have heard the term before, even read some other novels that fall under this same category. Stories featuring characters of different races, sexualities, abilities, or backgrounds in romantic situations. This sub-genre has recently become more successful as a recognized lack of diversity in romance literature has been questioned. And for good reason. Why should romance only be between a white man and white woman of above average attractiveness?
I, like many others, have struggled with finding romance novels that represent my own experiences and characters with whom I can identify. While there are now many authors—both established and new, traditionally and self-published—to be found, writing in dozens of voices and varying tastes (because who doesn’t like to read about a time-traveling, lesbian viking falling in love with a billionaire, werewolf, cowgirl?), I decided that perhaps there was still room for my own point of view.
So, if you’ve already read one of my books and liked it enough to give another a try, thank you so much. And if you haven’t read any of my books, but what I’ve said here has encouraged you to pick one up, welcome. I can only hope I’ll bring a bit of enjoyment to your day, or allow you to recognize a bit of yourself in one of my characters.
